If you’re a oatmeal lover like me you should definitely try oat milk. You’ll love it. The recipe is super simple, while the result is just wow. All you need to have is a blender, a fine sieve, and a large bowl.
The oat milk is sweet, grainy, and a little grassy the way a bowl of oatmeal would taste. I use it in coffee, smoothies, to make hot cocoa, or just warm a little bit add a bit of cinnamon and drink it as it is. I’ve read it may be used like normal milk in baked goods, puddings etc, but haven’t tried it yet.
Time : 5 min
Ingredients :
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup oatmeal
- A pinch of salt
Using 1 cup of old fashioned oats to 3 cups of water was my favourite ratio (so far). You play around with the recipe and find what ratios work best for you.
Directions :
- Soak the oatmeal in 1 cup of water for 30 minutes
- Rinse the oats and place them in the blender with 3 cups of water and a pinch of salt
- Blend for 1-2 minutes
- Put a fine sieve over a bowl and pour the oat milk slowly.
- Pour the milk on glass jars or bottles and keep in the fridge for 3-4 days
Be sure to give your milk a very good shake (or stir) before using, since homemade milk has no added emulsifiers and it separates.
Don’t forget the pulp 🙂 never through it. Use it in your smoothies, porridge or baking goods.
Enjoy…
