I go nuts for peanuts. They are my favourite snack while watching a movie, or the perfect fuel for my long hikes.
Recently I discovered that peanuts are not nuts, but legumes… Pretty shocking heee… Anyway they’re still full of fibres, healthy fats and nutty flavour, just like other nuts.
As a typical peanut lover I also love peanut butter, but the store bought versions do not excel on giving the full flavour and being healthy. They’re full of sugar, saturated fats and other unhealthy additives.
So, why not to go for that homemade version that is way better than the ready one? I was very intimidated by preparing my own peanut butter at first, but after a little research in the internet and Jona’s suggestions I decided to go for it.
The steps were pretty simple. Basically you remove the shell of peanuts, toast them a little bit and let cool. Then put the toasted peanuts, honey, oil and salt in a blender or food processor and blend until creamy. You may need to scrap the sides of the blender from time to time to make sure everything is blended perfectly.
My blender is a modest one and I managed to make a nice crunchy butter, so I encourage you to try it even though you don’t have the best blender.
The result was very satisfying nutty, crunchy, healthy peanut butter.
You may enjoy it with apple slices, bread and honey or add it in your smoothies.
